newness.

April 14, 2010

for those of you who don’t know, ash and i along with 3 other families are planting a church in bossier city, la! check us out at thecovenantchurch.com. the following is a recent post from our blog:

Hey Guys its Eddie. I wanted to take a minute and write about my journey to the Covenant Church. My wife Ashley and I feel so blessed be a part of this new journey. For me it started several years back at the Starbucks in Longview, TX. Luke and I were just talking about how sweet it would be to start a church one-day, but it was a very surface level conversation. I knew we had talked about it before and he and Brad and been talking about it for years but that day a seed was planted inside of me that grew in to a desire. At first I was all about doing it because I was frustrated with the common-day, Bible belt church but then there was a crossover in my spirit. It went from me wanting to start a church that fit what Eddie wanted to me wanting to start a church that Jesus wanted. When you start to the study statistics around you the need for the Gospel become very evident to you. You begin to have a heart for these people and for this area. The scripture is very clear when it says, “that if you know the good you ought to do, and you don’t do it, it’s sin.” So knowing the statistics of the people around us has compelled us to do something about it. So through prayer and the support of my awesome wife, we have committed ourselves to 3 other families and to God to help launch Covenant Church. In my life I’ve learned that most of the time obedience comes with great sacrifice and in this case that rings true once more. It’s not easy leaving a salary, insurance and stability. It’s not easy to leave a church that loves you and supports you. It’s not easy leaving friendships that took several years of your life to create. My flesh often times battles with me heart and I have to stop and ask myself, “Since when did God’s call on my life have to be easy?” The easy thing to do would be to let more and more people in Shreveport/Bossier become statistics rather than Saints. God didn’t call us to read the statistics; he called us to change them. And if the Apostle Paul had to make tents to provide a way for him to share the Gospel well then Eddie Briery is going to become a ridiculously good General Contractor. So in the midst of uncertainty we will trust God to be our Jehovah Jireh, he’s never failed us before and we trust that he’s got our back on this one as well.

See you guys in August,
Eddie Briery

hey guys! i hope the new year has met you well! we have a lot of awesome things coming up in the next few months! god has really been pressing on my heart the desire to be great. but not great on my own terms… acts 5 tells us that there were 2 men who society deemed to be great. they built these large followings and then the leaders were killed, and their followings quickly scattered. its my heart to lead people but in the same regard to create in them the desire to be great so that if ever im gone or leave them, the gathering will grow and flourish, and not die. so god i ask that you create inside of me to be a man of this magnitude. grant me the wisdom and favor to build a following on the power of your holy spirit and not on my own desires and efforts. you always sustain and never run dry, let us always yearn to drink from you.

the response.

November 11, 2009

sorry its been a while since my last update, things have been kinda crazy around here.. as i’m sitting here in my office studying to teach tonight i am overwhelmed by the many times in my life that i chose not to respond. it saddens me to know that on more than one occasion i have chosen to be lame or immobile in situations that god has distinctly called me to. im reminded of the calling of the early disciples.. man they left immediately.. they left their lives without hesitation. they RESPONDED. it’s my prayer that i will become a person who responds without hesitation!.. i have felt a call that is greater than i am… and i WILL respond.

Much Love,
Eddie

well life has began to slow down around here for a little while at least.  my wife and i have been on three road trips in the past three weeks and its definitely time for a break. I’m off this week and then its off to Caswell, NC my my first week of camp. gods time frame never ceases to amaze me. for a while now i have been cutting way back on my traveling schedule. although i have missed it, i was okay with it because god was doing some awesome things in our church. but you see he has shifted some things around and it will allow me to travel a couple of weekends a month. which is very exciting to me! it just goes to show me that god meant what he said when he said, “ put my kingdom first, and THEN i’ll give you the desires of your heart.

cant wait to hear from you guys!

run forrest...run

October 15, 2008

Sorry it has been so long since my last update but life has been pretty hectic. Just a quick run-down on what’s been going on:  renovations of the student center are almost finished, I have had a couple speaking engagements and conferences, I got ENGAGED…. That’s probably my favorite thing right now. Yes you heard it right Eddie Briery is engaged. My lovely fiancé is absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait for you all to meet her. Our wedding will be March 14, 2009, so keep u sin your prayers. God has been doing a lot of awesome things in my personal life. Preconceived notions, and former concepts that I always thought were right have presented a lot of growth in my personal journey. It has been hard at time but I am forever grateful for the thing I have learned and that I am learning.

“Lord I submit. If you need to break me down even further than this I will be broken because in all reality Lord, you’re the only one who can complete the brokenness with true perfection.”
